PostSubject: Silicone Vinyl kits   Tue 22 Mar - 18:07:40

Hello Ladies,

I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about Silicone Vinyl kits? I saw an old reborn this weekend at a friend's house and want to give it a try since I really like the feel. However, it's the first I'm hearing of one and don't know where to start. I Googled it and couldn't find much except a post that they need special paints? Oh and that they are expensive. Can anyone direct me in the right direction to a supplier, give me more information.....do we heat set the paint? Can we use Genesis paints on them? Any help is appreciated.

yes, you can use genesis on silicone vinyl I do it all the time. AD dolls most are SV, I have a Tamie Yarie here that I have to take appart and reborn for a customer, the only thing is I suggest you start with a light coat of matte varnish to give the paint a base to stick, otherwise the paint tends to run off..

Thank you so much! Is it true that the paint fades? I read in a post that the paint fades, you need a special paint for the silicone kits? A friend of mine was given one over the weekend and it had no skintone really. The creases looked like it was there at one time but I don't see any anywhere else. Could it have faded? Thanks for helping me with this, I've seen your babies on your site and they are excellent! Beautiful babies you've made thankyou!

thank you for your kind words, fading only happens on solid silicone that has been painted but not sealed correctly.
I have solid silicone dolls that have been painted for years and look the same as the day I painted..
here's an example of a solid silicone doll I painted about 5 years ago.
now is a BIG difference between a silicone vinyl and a solid silicone doll.

Ohhhh oho Now see your baby is beautiful bigsmile She looks very realistic laying there.....I love her chunky legs bigsmile

Now which do you prefer? How much more are they than the vinyl? I'm so sorry to pick your brain, but I really want to give it a try and I'm just sooooo confused. I'm still researching on where to find them and I'm finding that it says we need Psycho Paint with Silc Pig pigments and need to put a base coat of silicone base paint? Urgggghhhh!

When using the matte varnish as a base, it does the trick? I read some of the earlier posts here and kinda get it better. Is there any more of a risk baking silicone than with vinyl? Where can I buy the kits? I think I posted somewhere here that the Ashton Drakes I found were already reborned. I couldn't find any dealers who sold silicone kits.
