| My first baby has got speckled skin, I thoughoughly mixed the paint, it was well thinned, not too thick. It looked fine going on but has come out the oven with fine spotty skin. I am using Genesis heat set paints 8 mins at 265f The first couple of layers were like this too, each time I paint another layer I pounce over and blend in any creases with a dry brush. It looks ok when it is drying but as soon as I heat set the layer it goes speckly. At first I though this was the texture so I carried on but it looks awful. The baby has been heat set 4 times for four layers. I am going to have to remove the layers if I cannot get a smooth coat over to blend in. The oven is clean and the right temperature. Could it be the vinyl? I am sure I am blending before baking so I don't think it is the paint mix. Can anyone give me some advice? Thank you xxx |

| Sounds like your paint is too thick. You have to look at it after it is dry, before going in to the oven. The paint should be about as thin as fat free milk. Hope that helps... |

| Thank you all for your help and advice. I analyzed the vinyl of the original doll under a stromg magnification against another purpose made kit and found the fault was with the surface texture. It was very heavily pitted hence the speckling which was paint pooling in the micro holes. I was using a full body doll to practice skills such as shaping the tummy plate, stripping the original paint, eye removal/re fixing and so on. I turned the caucasion doll into an ethnic baby and the speckles were no longer noticable. When I work out how to add pictures from my laptop on here (I do not use photobucket etc) I will upload my finished baby. |

Glad you were able to solve your problem.
As for photos I think you will find that you will need a photo hosting program such as photobucket, or another similar type of site for being able to place images into your posts.
There is a good tutorial on photobucket down in the member tutorials section.══(¯`•.¸.•°*°•. ✿ .•°*°•.¸.•´¯)════(¯`•.¸.•°*°•. ✿ .•°*°•.¸.•´¯)════(¯`•.¸.•°*°•. ✿ .•°*°•.¸.•´¯)══ Lyn Reborn Artist - Lynk Nursery PLEASE CHECK OUT MY WEBSITE - NEW ITEMS BEING ADDED REGULARLY http://lynkproducts.com.au |

| Aw well he looks great! One way of avoiding those speckles due to vinyl pits such as this would be to use a thinned down layer of matte varnish as your first layer. Consider it like using gesso on a canvas. Keep it thin and smooth for best results. ══(¯`•.¸.•°*°•. ✿ .•°*°•.¸.•´¯)════(¯`•.¸.•°*°•. ✿ .•°*°•.¸.•´¯)════(¯`•.¸.•°*°•. ✿ .•°*°•.¸.•´¯)══ ღஐƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒஐღ--Karen--ღஐƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒஐღ

Thanks Karen that's a great idea. Hopefully when I am brave enough to paint the proper kits I would not have that problem. I am painting a caucasion baby previously a "Baby shivers" Irwin Toy and this one seems fine, I am even going to have a go at rooting. The head seems huge compared to the reroots I've done on Barbie and Sindy dolls. I wonder if you can help me on another query, this doll had a hard plastic battery compartment inside so there was not much neck. I have sawn off the top of the compartment as it has a shaped tube that slots into the head (You twisted the head off to get access to the batteries) Is there a better long neck ring that I could glue into the neck hole so that the new suede body can be cable tied neatly and easier. The tube feels a bit hard even with padding and I wouldn't want the head to fall off. Hope I explained that ok! |
