This is a list of the basic products that will be used in each class. Specific paints needed will be posted in that class forum.

Kit, body, belly plate, eyes, eye lashes

Ceramic palette

Genesis Heat Set paints Flesh 06,07,08,Bountiful baby premix colors- (Warm blush, Lip nail and blush, Earth mint, Eyelid purple;also brow colors brow brown, ethnic brow or blonde depending on what color hair you want your baby to have)genesis pyrrole red #02& 07 ,phthalo blue #02, genesis yellow, dioxazine purple #04,phthalo green #06. Odorless paint thinner, thinning medium, thick medium, matte varnish, glazing gel

Cosmetic sponges, sea sponge, household sponge, Q-tips, magic eraser(to take off any Paper glaze if you drip by accident)

I use the 02, but you can use ultrmarine, if you have that, to. We are not doing any washes...it is just for the veining mostly.

I have 10 free samples of the yellow orchre, if anyone needs that shipped with their kit.

I have a small container of Yellow orchre Lara so I will pass on the sample so someone else can have it but I was wondering where you have purchased it before. I have looked around just a little and for the life of me don't remember where I got mine from. Who is a good supplier for the odd colors?

Is it white ceramic? - I like white so I can see the colors. Since your first class I've been looking for little, bitty, clear, glass dishes and lids. I use the lids to cover the paint so dust won't settle over the paint (probably not a problem for you Lara). I got a big glass lid to cover the whole white palette. Yardsales are good for this.

Do you plan to mix one color in a section and then do a different shade on the edge or do you need a bigger section for a color OR are there more sections? It is intriguing to have a little idea of where we are going this time - before the last class I was clueless. (Oops I may have said that wrong - last class I had no experience and therefore I was clueless.) Lara knew where she was going, but didn't know where we had or hadn't been, cause people, like me were clueless.

I can tell you I bought more mops at a Hobby Lobby sale. I plan to put tags/labels on them so I don't mix paint colors.

I got off track because I need plain Yellow, not Yellow Oh,dear. I don't spell or dance well, but I do use a dictionary, occasionally.

Lara, I do need plain yellow and I would like you to include a sample with my order and I'll forgive you if your forget - because you have a lot on your plate/pallette. My email has problems and I hope it is not a virus - I'm thinking server/provider upgrades is the issue, especially because I don't have any other problems.

Love that big pallet - I'll be getting one. The cover is a great idea. I am using a cut glass cover, from a dish that broke, for my little ceramic pallet. Love to save/recycle if I can.

PostSubject: BB pre-mixed paints   Fri 30 Oct 2009 - 4:08

[i]I was wondering if the BB pre-mixed paints came in a set or you need to get them individually? I have a couple, but want all the "special" colours for the lips, nails, etc. Also, what would the best size be to get? They are mostly for the tiny details, so am not sure if I should get the full size and never worry about running out, or get the small, and still have enough for a lot of dolls.

Thanks!

I've been using the small premix blush/nail/lip FOREVER, and I use it on every doll. You can get all the small ones at BB for like $2-3. If you go through your paint too fast, you are using too much.

Lyndie- got your yellow sample written down, so I won't forget. :D

[i]Thanks! I will go there and order them. Seems like I can get the smaller size and have them last quite awhile. Sounds good to me, lol.

Thanks!

Gerry BB does not carry it unless they just started in the last few days. You can order it on www.hunnybuns.com. Lara had posted she had a few samples and was willing to ship them with your kit if you needed one. You might check with her and see if she has any left.

I use it to cover the back of my paci's, so you don't see the magnet. You can get beautiful squares at Joann for a few cents, there are with he quilting stuff.

Hi Lara............I'm so excited to be in your class and hope to aquire new skills..I have not been at this long.....about 2yrs accumulating and playing and buying......between a busy job.....have not put a baby up for sale yet..........not quite convinced on the whole ebay thing yet........have a Neice whom only sells privately and she does exceptional work and profits!............I do appear to do many, many layers on my babies.
To the colors we need, I have pyrole red #08, not 02 or 07.............diarylide yellow and not ochre..........but I do believe you had a few free sample and Kate from Parskville is getting us that. (thank you by the way :) and I have phthalo blue 04 not 02.............genesis 07, 08 not 05, 06. I have BB vein blue. Is there going to be much of a dif? Can I add some titan white to these or a darker color? I have thin med not thick......so :?: Anyway ...any advice or thoughts on this...........much appreciated!!

They are now being used for apply eyebrows and hair instead of painting. However, you have to put the thickening medium or matte varnish over top and bake. I have seen that they have started carrying them as reborn supplies and found them a lot cheaper at Dick Blick if anyone was interested.

Thanks,

[i] I noticed you have the magic eraser in the supply list, and I know of many uses for it, but what do you use it for in reborning? Probably something I should already know, but have never heard anyone using it before on their dolls.
Thanks!

Not a necessary tool in reborning, but works great to takeoff any Aleenes glaze you may have gotten on my accident when applying to the lips. I got a drop on the cheek and it worked great to take it off. You have to be REAL careful, though. IT WILL take the paint off if you rub too much.

I like the look of painting better...it's more realistic. Pencil can look like. well, pencil. You do need a matte varnish if you use them and the matte will lighten your color up a bit. If you aren't great at getting those fine stroke, hair painting, you can use the pencils in class.

You def need a genesis red or red #2. Everything else should be fine, but you will need to use some burnt umber to your yellow. You don't need the thick med. You can use matte varnish to add texture to brows.

[i]Thanks for the tip! I have Alene's Tacky glue in white and clear, but so far haven't used them. Guess I am going to learn how now, lol!!! I also have the paper glaze, that can be used for bubbles or whatever I can't remember, and sure would like to get a lesson on them too. But what you have already for the class is fine, as I assume you will get to it in one or more of your classes sooner or later. Thanks for letting me know.

I am having trouble finding Bountifulbaby premix eyelid purple and the lip, nail, blush premix. I have seen the Stawberry n Cream and Peaches pre mix. Would either of those be suitable for the class. Thanks Pauline

Hi Second Star,
Thank you.... I should have said can't find any in Australia. :) I am finding the high postage costs, even for little items just not worth ordering overseas. I'm not sure of BB postage costs now as it has been quiet awhile since I last purchased from them.

I can get them if I want to buy the complete set of pre-mix colours but I was sure they used to sell over here(Aus.) in little separate jars. Pauline

Hi Second Star, Thank you for your kind offer of ordering from BB for me but that's a bit much to ask of you.

Int'l Postage makes me nervous. I made enquiries for a 16 oz $ 7.95 item from Blick Art Materials

Fed Ex shipping $61.70.... USPS Mail Int'l $31.35 ( our dollar is worth less than the US dollar as well)

I also thought BB had a flat rate of $30 something for International. I may be wrong as it has been awhile. It would be perfect to have a group to do one order from here and share the costs, but alas I am on my own :(

[i]I went to BB to get the premixed paints, and was also shocked at their cost to ship what amounts to about 2 to 3 ozs!!! I am in Canada, so our $ is aslo worth less, and paying so much for such a small parcel is terrible. I have used BB for several years and will continue to do so, but not for small purchases. I just can't afford, or see the sense in paying as much, or more for the item, especially such a small one. It states that they realize that it will be tough on small purchases, but that it will make it better for those who make large purchases. That may be so, but they are likeley to lose a lot of their small package sales. I know that I, on a disability, cannot afford such huge shiiping costs. BB will get my larger sales, but I will buy elsewhere for my small ones. They are such nice people and have great products, and I will miss using them for these parcels. Now to find where else to get them. Good luck to those in the same boat. Please share if you find other sources, as I will too.

Pauline, we can send a small flat rate box to Australia for $12.95 USD! You cant' get a lot into the box but it can be up to 4 lbs. Many of the suppliers don't offer this as they don't want to mess with international shipping! I send stuff to my friend in SA all the time. It generally takes 10 working days to get there. She orders the stuff and has it sent to me, I get it all together and print a label from my computer and they come and pick it up...no problems and very easy!

Pamela I can order the premixed colors that you want as I have to order some for myself anyway....then just ship them to you....I'm sure I can ship them cheaper then what BB will charge. If you want me to do this just pm me....or send me an email at rose_blossom_angels_nursery@yahoo.com and put premixed paints in the subject box.
