PostSubject: Im such a mess...   Mon 9 Jan 2012 - 9:45

So last night i was working on my Avery. I had painted him a peaches and cream baby from the old peaches and cream book a few months ago. Well, his lips had been bothering me, they had been looking a bit orange so I figured I would remove them an redo them. My hubby had the computer for the most of last night so I figured I would just strip them and use Bountiful Baby's pre mixed lip color. After applying the lip color his cheeks seemed a bit pale looking so I blushed him a bit more. And you wont believe what I did! I accidently used Bountiful Baby's eyelid purple instead of the lip blush. Soooo now my peaches and cream baby, has purple cheeks. My question is what wash do I do to fix this? A green wash maybe. I looked at the color wheel and it said green but I just want to make sure before I mess him up anymore lol

Ive learned two things:
1. Dont take shortcuts
2. Memorize the mostly used paint mixes in laras ebooks

You baked them on? sad Orange will help to neutralize purple. Do you have a color wheel?

Yes they were baked. I thought it kinda looked funny but thought it was just because he was a peachy baby and not a pinkish looking baby. I kept going back into my paint box to check and see if I had the right paint. My eyelid purple was in the box and I couldnt find my lip blush so I figured that that was what it was since it didnt have the sticker on it. Apparently I was wrong. The good thing is it wasnt my Krista. I really love how she turned out and would be so upset if i messed her up. This was just a seconds kit I was working on that is suppose to be a playbaby so its no biggy really.

I looked at the color wheel in the fairy ebook. Purple was acrossed from green so I thought green but I will give orange a try.

Try to match whatever the color purple you have on him with the opposite in the color wheel. If it's more pink then blue, then lean towards the green. If it;s a cooler purplish, then you need to try to warm her up. A picture would really help though.

Here's an interactive color wheel. Look for the color closest matching on the left side and click on it. Then top of the right side will say complement color. That's the neutralizing color. http://r0k.us/graphics/SIHwheel.html

I have had labels come off my jars too, so I have a habit now as soon as I get a new jar of paint I use a black marking pen and I write the colour on the lid. Also makes it a lot eaiser to find a certain colour than having to check labels all the time too. Just make sure that you place the correct lid back on the correct jar of paint when using them.

Oh no Stephanie sad

I've mixed up flesh colours before because of the label coming off but nothing like that. I do the same as Lyn does and all my lids have been marked with a sharpie and I put them straight back on the jars when mixing my paints.

Well, it seemed like I made it worse. Unfirtnately I had to strip the entire head, which made me sad because the rooting was turning out really well. Oh well... Lesson learned. Thanks for all the advice.

I too use the marking pen on the lid thing. BUT that comes off too! Does anyone have a solution to keep the marking pen from rubbing off the lids? Do you think clear fingernail polish might help?

I kinda know how you feel. The back of the toes and the palms of the hands on my Drew doll were looking real chalky. The paint was too thick and a lot of it settled in between his toes and in the creases. I removed the paint with acetone (probably a no-no) and am in the process of repainting. It's a pain in the neck to try and fix your mistakes, but mistakes indeed are the way we learn and push us to do better the next time.

Karen were you serious about the matte varnish? And if so then will the plastic lid be OK with the heat?

Yes, Joy, it will. We don't use very hot ovens. You can also use the heat gun to cure it.

I do the same w/ the sharpie as soon as I get them also. So Karen that's an awesome idea...since I tend to double stack my petite paints in tins, the sharpie does sometimes smear off.

worthy Karen you're the McGuyver of the reborn world... lol
