Does anyone here use the heat gun to set your paint? I bought one because I was led to believe that it would work in place of the oven. Now after being here I have not heard anyone talk of using one so I am concerned I should not use it? Just in the summer so much cooler to use it instead of the oven. Thanks for any input on the subject. You ladies are all so helpful.
God Bless
Bev

I do, I heat set my in between layers with a heat gun, is easier for me sometimes to do it that way, but I always bake the first and last layer to make sure I do not miss a spot and all the paint is set evenly. and if I have to add a detail or two I just use the gun for that specific job.

I bought a heat gun to do little details so that I don't have to pop the baby in the oven too many times for the little steps. I use it for steps like eyebrows, lips, tounge, etc. But I do put the baby in the oven for the bigger steps later so I know that the paint will set correctly.
I heard of a lady using it for the whole doll on another forum and she loved it, but I have never tried it myself.

I also bought one and use it for little steps, so I don't have to heat up the oven. Works great and saves time!

Thank you everyone. I was not so sure it worked like it was suppose to since no one ever says anything about using it. So it is best then to do a final bake in the oven? Again thank you for all the help you all give.

I used to use my oven all the time, but circumstances changed, so I started using my gun, and I use it almost exclusively now. As soon as I get started using my convection oven, I hope to use it for the all over paint layers, but will probablu still use it for small paints, like lips, veins and such that take just seconds to finish with the gun. The stove in my apartment is brand new as of Dec., so since it isn't my house, I don't think I should use it for this. I do very well with the gun, and have done so for over 2 years or so. I don't usually have hardly any shine either, but Lotus is the exception to the rule, her face being quite shiny, shinier than I have ever had a kit be. Since I have the matte varnish and can fix that, it isn't a concern, but wondering if it is the kit or the gun? Oh, well, as long as I can get rid of it, all is well. The biggest thing with the gun is to remember that it is VERY HOT, VERY FAST, 400F, almost immediately, so be careful not to touch it and have a safe place to put it down. Another thing is to ALWAYS use the cool down button for a few seconds. It will help you keep your gun longer. Whether you use it just for small detail work or the whole kit, just follow the saftey steps and all should be fine. I like it, and have 4 of them, lol. BOL on using
