clapclap clapclap Beautiful!!! Boy, you catch on sooo fast!! Your eyes are looking great! They have a slightly upturned look with the bottom lid ending at the bottom of the iris. Very nice! happyforyou! weeeeee! wave bravo bravo wave weeeeee! happyforyou!

I can really hardly wait to see him finished and baked. What did you put in the head for armature? Will it expand when you bake it? What did you decide was the best way to smooth it?

For your first sculpt you have done very well it does look like a baby,l would add a little more clay to the back of the head and make the ears a little smaller, the top of your ear should be on line with the top of the eye and top of the upper lip. When l sculpt ears l make a little sausage shape and curl one end then make an other sausage shape slightly flatten one side and make a little v shape in it put this inside the sausage shape with the curl smooth it all then add a small half moon shape and smooth to the front of the ear. With your eyes you need to add more clay to make the little lids,if you want a sleeper take some of your clay and cover the eye ball make sure the clay is thick enough to shape the eye.Gently push in the clay around the top and bottom of the eye, make a slit across the middle deep enough so that you can add lashes but not to deep.Add a peace of clay shaped like a kidney from above the nose on line with bottom of inner eye bring the shaped clay down over the top of cheek on both sides of face, this will also make a big difference to the eyes. You can then add the cute little indent lines baby's have under their eyes.Use pictures of babies this will help you out.here is my sleeper to show what l mean l am no expert this is tips and tricks l have picked up over time hope it helps

Dreaming Angel, did you sculpt and paint this baby? Is she still clay, or has she been made in vinyl? Your sculpting tips are very good and detailed. Nicely written. Your baby is absolutely adorable.

I had to reread your post for it to sink in that the baby in the pic was probably sculpted and painted by you. She looks so professional!! bravo

That's a nice 1st sculpt for sure. clapclap

If you don't get it as smooth as you'd like, after baking you can always use an extra fine abrasive block/tool to help buff down any high spots or roughness you'd like to get rid of. I buff a lot of my polymer clay projects that I make. It gives them a better cleaner look really, (IMO). Just make sure you do it very lightly & with a very very fine grit for which ever type of tool you use to buff, since you obviously don't want file marks. Plus I wouldn't buff very much on the facial details or other small detailed areas, but more to help give a nicer shape/smoothness to the head & it's larger smooth areas to make more uniform.

Good Luck & I look forward to seeing more of your work in sculpting. bigsmile dancingelephant
