| Here's another infant made to look much older than I believe it's supposed to be. http://www.ebay.com/itm/REBORN-BABY-GIRL-LILA-by-Romie-Strydom-/160733262406?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item256c72f246
This sculpt is only a mere 2" longer than I was when I was born. But the reborn looks like me at age 2. I looked very different at birth and age 1 than at age 2. All very distinctive looks in my opinion.
Now, I think the bidding speaks for itself. And a ridiculously low starting bid somehow always gets bidders to jump beyond what they'd normally bid.
Personally, none of the "toddler" kits available are up my personal alley. They look more like miniature pre-schoolers. I think some of these 0-month olds done to look like 2-year olds are done very, very well. People like the look, it's a change from the norm. I even like some of them, but it's the size that would bother me! No healthy 2-year old should have only grown 0-3" in two years!
In my opinion, a 2-year old is still very, very babylike. It's so interesting to see that some artists can take a newborn sculpt and make it that much older. I really think the toddler sculptors need to recognize this and make the newborn sculpts on a larger scale - it's what buyers want. |

| That is one gorgeous baby! Man,she is beautiful! I think she looks very much like a 3 or 4 month old baby. Certainly doesn't look more than 6 months old for sure! I had very large babies, weighing around 9 lbs and all but 2 were 20 inches long at birth. The 2 that were longer were 22 1/2 inches (my first) and 21 inches (my 2nd). The other 7 were all around 20 to 20 1/2 inches. By 3 months they were probably about 24 inches, and at one year were about 34 inches long but weighed around 30 lbs.
I think soe of the reason that the sculpt are smaller recently has to d with cost. The bigger they are, the more the vinylcoss. Please forgive the typing......thee is something wrong with my keyboard....... OK....also the dolls are made to fit clothing sizes too. 18 inches will fit into a preemie sleeper, 22inches may fit into a newborn.
I think the most cuddl of all sizes is the 19 to 23 inchers. The 26 inch babie are NOT cuddly......they have parts hanging overthe edgs of arms etc. Just lik areal baby that would fold themselves to you....
I am going togo beat the keboard now....... hugs joy |

| I agree with Joy, she looks not like a hospital newborn but I've found out when sizing baby clothes the term newborn is subjective rather than "descriptive". I'm going to post two pictures of my younger daughter and you tell me how old you think she is in each one ... then I'll tell you her ages. lol |

That looks pretty right on to me. 2nd one could be age two but that is only because of all that hair and some babies just have a lot of hair. I will be interested to see how close you got to actual age. |

| Try one week old in the first one and 4½-5 months in the second one. So, while I agree that some of the sculpts are done "too old", quite a few are very normal looking for me. |

| At age 1 I was still essentially bald(white fuzz) by age 2 my hair was down to my shoulders and straight. My full biological sister was sent home from the hospital with a palm tree pony tail on top of her head she had so much hair. At age two, she was still wearing the same type of palm tree pony tail.
My oldest daughter was born weighing 6 lbs 14 ounces and was 19 inches long. Her first day of kindergarten, her dress was a size 2T. She was very healthy, just short.
The reason I wrote the above is to show that not all babies are indicative of a particular age. I feel this Lila is very well done as an older baby and that the hair fits just fine with the age of the sculpt, size, too.
Just take a look at any kindergarten class photo. Some kids are verytall(in the back) some are very small(in the front) and then some are in between. We would not be human if we were all alike. ══(¯`•.¸.•°*°•. ✿ .•°*°•.¸.•´¯)════(¯`•.¸.•°*°•. ✿ .•°*°•.¸.•´¯)════(¯`•.¸.•°*°•. ✿ .•°*°•.¸.•´¯)══ ღஐƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒஐღ--Karen--ღஐƸ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒஐღ

| Well, IMHO, the reborners and myself included are making these babies look older than they are supposed to be in many cases, however it is a reflection of what the new moms are doing. Babies are no longer dressed in diapers and kimonos and sacques till they are 3 or 4 months old. Now they come home from the hospital in OshKosh jeans and rebock tennies, and even my little Kierstin who is only two months old always seems to have a head band with a huge flower on it or an outfit that I would have chosen for a kindergarden child but in a newborn size. It seems these new moms do not want their babies to be babies for long any more and the is reflected in the way that they are done by the reborners.
I think BB Cuddles can be done as a baby very nicely, and I did a Bo Elle for a lady that wanted her BoElle to look like a baby, not a toddler. Two of my own children hand absolutely nothing but peach fuzz till they were about 16 months old, and then got a nice head of hair. (One of them is back to the peach fuzz now at age 44) The third arrived home from the hospital with 3 inches of thick dark brown hair all over his head, and hair on his back, and shoulders, a unibrow, and baby moustache. And today, at the ripe old age of 48, he still has all that hair, hairy back, legs, chest and a moustache, as well as the unibrow!!
I personally like to do baby looking babies, but my customers do not usually request that!
Baby hugs, Audrey |

Sharon, in guessing, I'd say 1-2 mos; and 9-12 mos. I'd be surprised if the second picture was older than 1-yr because judging by her arms and hands she's still very much an infant, not yet a toddler.
Me, I was completely bald when born. And was only fuzzy by age 1. By age 2 my head was covered in ringlets. By age 4 my hair was brown! The ebay baby I posted looks very much like I did at 2-yrs old, except less ringlet style hair. |

And we wonder why they're growing up so fast!! I mean, there's absolutely nothing wrong with bringing home a "designer" baby LOL it's cute, but... Today's kids - I feel they're robbed of childhoods. I know a woman in her 50's whose 9-yr old daughter in 3rd grade has her hair dyed! The kid is already wearing bras ... in 3rd grade!!!!! She's more interested in boys than dolls. I didn't need a bra until about 7th grade and I wasn't interested in boys until high school! I'm sure some could argue that "I" was behind and potentially flat chested, but 3rd grade with dyed hair? She's always got her hair dyed some color. I just don't think it's right.
You're right, I'm watching the highest reborn purchases/bids on ebay to see what's selling. Customers want those mature infants. I understand that it's different, it adds variety to a collection for sure. But some of them, like that $7000 baby, they're just too mature for their size imo. |

You're absolutely right Karen, my opinion was along like Sharon said that some of the reborns are just done to look "too old." For me, the baby I'm referencing looks a lot like me at age 2. I was born at 21" and mom said she knew that meant I was going to be tall. I'm now 5' 9" and tower over her at only 5' 4". But my father was 6' 5". I was always tall and kids in school always made fun of me for being "too old." They associated age with height. I guess as I'm doing here. But even in Sharon's photo you can tell that first picture is extremely newborn because you can see the skin coloration and how delicate it is. That baby is clearly (imo) very, very newborn, I'd say not more than 3 mos! Older than 3 mos babies, I'd say are much more difficult to guess age. |
