PostSubject: Can you paint with air dry paints on top of genesis?   Mon 20 Feb - 0:18:22

I recently bought a reborn on ebay, but I want the lips darker. I have some Authentic Reborn and LDC paints, but I have never used the air dry paints before, only genesis. I'm just wondering if the air dry paint will stick on top of the heat set paint? Can I seal it with the air dry gloss varnish? Any advice would be great :)

You'd have to remove whatever gloss was used on the lips, either way. Once you remove that, why wouldn't you just touch it up with the GHSP since you are used to using those?

I have done it and it works out fine. You can touch up Genesis babies with air dry, but you can not touch up air dry babies with Genesis!! I have not done this on any babies I have sold, only ones that my grand daughter brings back for help because her little girl has "BOO BOO'D" I find it works great for that purpose. I had to do the whole head on one that had once had rooted hair and Haylee sat in the corner for an hour one day patiently pulling out every hair on its head. It still looks fine considering all the wear and tear a 3 year old could inflict. (Every time I got a free 12 or 10 inch kit with a purchase I p ut them away and did those as birthday and Christmas gifts for her till she got older. Now I am ready to give her a regular preemie to start her real doll collection off. )

Thank you for the replies!
I was afraid to use genesis because the doll has already been rooted and has magnets and whatnot, and even if I got the magnets off, I'd be too nervous about the glue in the oven oho
I painted right over it with the Authentic Reborn paint last night, and did some on the nose eyelids and ears too, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I wish I would have taken before and after pictures, she looks like a whole different baby :) Not that she wasn't beautiful before, whoever reborned her did an amazing job, but now she looks like the twin to the buggy I reborned a couple months ago. I'm a sucker for twins wink

You don't know who reborned your doll?

Just a heads up on reheating your babies heads... Neodynium. Magnets will loose their magnetism if heated above 167 degrees F. so if you are redoing any heads with Genesis, you need to be sure to remove the magnets before proceeding.

Baby hugs,
Audrey

Audrey, I think that's a temporary loss(while hot) because I've heated magnets and when they cooled again, they were just fine. But they also do make some magnets that will still magnetized at higher heats, too, but that's not the kind I used.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I always thought if you heated the head with a magnet attatched, the magnet might get hot enough to melt the vinyl. I never thought about the magnet getting de-magnetized. Good to know!
